A pretty face will take you so far in life! After that you need to show you’re clever and engaging! By all means have a web design that looks cool – but underneath the frills it has to work seamlessly. Users need to find what they’re

Responsive Website Design
Before Smartphones, (“BS”) we all surfed the web on a desktop or laptop computer. It made sense that websites were designed and developed for just those two devices. After Smartphones (“AS”) that changed. People
view the web on multiple devices from tablets to smartphones even watches! If your website doesn’t support these devices, users will simply switch to your competitor’s site. If your site makes a garden snail look fast, users will leave, if the layout is confusing, users will leave, if it’s awkward to navigate, users
will simply leave and go to your competitor’s site. Sorry, but other than your mom, you’ll find loyalty in the dictionary!
We’ve done the research and statistics reveal that the majority of users don’t convert from the small to big screen. Which means at the 11th hour you lose your customer. Kind of like turning a customer away at the checkout counter!
Why would you do that?
Never fear when Volt Lab is near because the WonderVolts will do wonderful things for your website! We’ll redesign your website’s front-end templates to adapt and scale to whatever device the user is viewing. No need to panic about losing any brand identity, because we will stay authentic to your look and feel, while improving the overall performance. We’ll test your website on a variety of devices from mobile to desktop. The criteria is to ensure the experience is consistent and user-friendly. Our aim is to improve your mobile conversion by 50% which, given the current percentage of users who visit websites on mobile devices, should increase monthly sales
by 20% per month. Nice one! We offer a scope of services for website design and development.
Research for your responsive website
Our checklist is thorough and extensive, but broadly speaking covers these
1. What does your business do?
2. What are your aspirations?
3. Who are your competitors?
4. Who are your customers, and what are their expectations and typical
5. If you could choose who would be your ideal customer?
Our job is to take your website design from where it is to where it should be!
Look for a stock image of an architect and they’ll have plans tucked under their arms – that’s us! We are your website design architects, and because we’re obsessed with our work, we carry our designs everywhere! We start by
sketching out interface layouts for three to five different views. This includes the home page, sub page, the blog template, and any additional templates. Wireframes are skeletons of your website without the frills of the finished
design. We use wireframes to experiment and rework our design across different screen sizes. One size does not fit all but our design has to fit all sizes. (That was a witty interlude to break all the technical stuff). Next we’ll
design high-fidelity comps that show what the final designs will look like on desktop, tablet, and smart-phone screen sizes. If clients aren’t totally satisfied with the first design, we offer a further two revisions. At this stage either you have to provide us with the content or give us the brief, which our in-house copywriter will transform into compelling material. We can only test-drive the site if we’ve loaded all the content. So we need you to have the content polished and ready for us to load on the development server.
Next we’ll design high-fidelity comps that show what the final designs will look like on desktop, tablet, and smart-phone screen sizes, providing up to two rounds of revisions on the design.
Back to the architect, his design only becomes a reality once the building is complete. We construct the site using standards-based technology. We’ll build the front-end templates in HTML5, CSS. We use JQuery for simple
behaviour and effects like animations and form validation.
WordPress Website Integration
WordPress is the preferred content management system (“CMS”) as you can update the content yourself. WordPress is the most popular open-source CMS in the world and has thousands of web developers constantly improving
it and contributing plugins to extend its functionality. After testing the static layouts, we integrate the new designs with your WordPress site. We mirror your live site in a development environment. It’s then time to assess and our
QA department will test the site across different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer 9+) and devices (iPhone 4S, Galaxy II). Any bugs, problems, glitches and gremlins that arise from this testing will be fixed prior to launch.
Your website will initially contain between five to ten pages that don’t change often, we call them static pages. These include: the home page, about us, our services, our team, and contact us. You will be able to add new top level and
secondary pages to the site navigation yourself in WordPress. (See how convenient this is, we really want to make this process as affordable and easy for you as possible). We’ll also set up a blog for you to publish posts that will be displayed in a reverse chronological order with pagination, search, tagging and category filters. The website will include a social media widget on the home page to display your Twitter feeds, social share buttons on your blog posts, a simple email form on your contact page, and an email newsletter sign up form which we’ll hook into your email marketing/CRM account. Plugins are a way to extend the functionality of WordPress and make the admin panel easier to manage. We’ll install a limited number of plugins for launch, which will include a simplified way to manage the navigation, automatically backup the database, SEO tools so you can manage the title and meta description tags, and an XML site-map generator which will help Google index your pages automatically.
We’ll test the website in a variety of browsers, including Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer 9. We’ll also test the responsive design on iPhone and Android devices. We’ll test the functionality of the site to ensure there are no errors or broken links and then hand it over to you for review on a test server. We offer two rounds of minor revisions or tweaks to the sites, and then we’ll launch.
Once you’ve tested the website and are happy with its functionality, we’ll go live and point your domain over to the new site.
We are experts in inbound marketing. A retainer with us ensures that you are regularly publishing content, engaging prospective customers on social media, and otherwise driving people into your purchasing funnel. This is guaranteed to grow your sales.
Content creation is a vital part of your website. Web writing is different to traditional copy. Volt Lab has specialist web copywriters who understand the technique of writing for the web without compromising on content. They know
the brief – which is to drive conversions to that landing page. If you feel confident writing your own copy and want us to merely adapt it for the web we are happy to do so.
User testing isn’t essential if you’re not a perfectionist. We are perfectionists so we recommend testing the designs with real users. This can and does improve the quality of the finished design and detects usability issues. You know the proverb a stitch in time…we want to catch any loose threads before they unravel. User testing involves randomly selecting users and asking them to perform tasks related to your website. The results are recorded, collated and presented to you along with a list of usability issues or comments that our design team can implement. As always your input is valued.
Web Technical Support Retainer
Just like a baby bird leaves the nest gradually, it’s not time to fly solo just after launch. We recommend retaining our services after the site is launched to assist with any teething issues, or support. Our web maintenance retainer includes a monthly analytics reports and on-going recommendations to further improve your site conversion.
Website Design & Development Timeframe
To complete the work for a small/medium website design our turnaround time is approximately 12 weeks from start to finish. A lot is dependent on when we receive feedback at each stage. We will commence work on your web design
as soon as the contract is signed! What are you waiting for? For larger or e-commerce web design projects we may require longer lead times based on the complexity of the website. You can be assured that we will be transparent with you from day one about our proposed dates of delivery and keep you informed throughout the process.
Website Design Contract
Before we can start, we will need to sign a standard web design contract. This ensures your protection and our remuneration.
